Flamingo Chat

A campus chat app built as eight Go microservices talking gRPC, with Kafka and Redis pub/sub behind live WebSocket messages. Deployed on GKE and load tested until the single node ran out of CPU.

What it is

A chat app for a campus community, split into eight Go services. They call each other over gRPC. Kafka and Redis pub/sub carry messages to the WebSocket connections that deliver them live.

How it runs

It runs on GKE and is installed with Helm. Public traffic comes in through a Cloudflare Tunnel. Prometheus, Grafana and Loki cover metrics, dashboards and logs.

How far it goes

The load test used k6 against a single e2-standard-2 node (2 vCPU, 8 GB) in asia-south1 (Mumbai). Message delivery stayed at a p95 of 61 ms with 25 users. At 200 users it sat between 181 and 299 ms. The node’s CPU saturated at 275 to 300 users, so that is where one node stops.
